Another Lost Art...

I thought about Jaye talking about the lost art of ironing a few posts back and I was reminded about another chore that most families have forgotten about, polishing shoes. You can see from the photo that I intend to pass this skill along to my children. There's nothin' like a freshly shined pair of shoes. We were getting ready for the big trip so we shined up the kickers. Does anyone else still do this, I wonder?

My dad used to pay me a quarter to polish and shine his shoes when I was a kid. What a deal! (for him) I was good at it too. Mark still shines his and I do on occasion.

Hmmmmm - - - the last time I shined a shoe was probably back about 1980 or something. I even FORGOT it was done, though I used to do it back in that old, old, day.

Dad had stuff to polish shoes...not that I remember him doing it but I used those brushes as benches for my Barbies to "sit" on! :) ~Jaye

I think it was your first Sunday at Chapel Pike, you polished my shoes because you did your's & Wes's. That was the only time my shoes had ever been polished.
